TEC engines are unique because they improve fuel economy without any compromise whatsoever in power or performance. In automotive applications, a SineDrive™ engine running on gasoline will provide 35% better fuel economy than a conventional gasoline engine of similar power, while also providing better torque and acceleration. In diesel applications a SineDrive engine running on diesel will provide 10% better fuel economy and up to 80% less NOx emissions than a standard diesel engine in a light-duty cycle. These benefits are realized because TEC engines have the ability to optimize compression ratio according to the power demands placed on the engine and because a SineDrive engine produces lower friction during a normal vehicle drive cycle. The chart below compares the payback period of a TEC engine to a few common hybrid models. The data in this chart is from Edmunds.com.
